The candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) for Afikpo/Edda federal constituency in the 2027 general elections, Mr.Agwu Ama Agwu, has said addressing the lingering electricity challenge in the constituency would be his top priority if elected into the House of Representatives.
Agwu stated this while speaking on his emergence as the party’s candidate, noting that the absence of stable electricity has continued to hamper economic growth and development across Afikpo, Edda and the entire Ebonyi South zone.
He said the solution to the power challenge lies in the energisation of the Amassiri sub-power station, which, according to him, has remained dormant for years despite its capacity to improve electricity supply in the area.

“The electricity problem is not peculiar to Afikpo alone. It affects Edda and the entire Ebonyi South. Once the sub-power station at Amassiri is energised, communities in the zone will enjoy steady power supply. That is one issue I will pursue vigorously,” he said.
The NDC standard-bearer said he would work with other lawmakers and relevant stakeholders to ensure the project receives the necessary support and funding.
Speaking on his candidature, Agu said he was humbled by the confidence reposed in him by party members and pledged to offer effective and people-oriented representation.
According to him, his aspiration is driven by the desire to liberate the constituency from what he described as recycled politics and provide quality representation at the National Assembly.
He also advocated equitable power rotation within the constituency, arguing that fairness demands that elective positions be shared among the component areas of the federal constituency.
Agwu recalled that he was moved by the turnout of voters during the party’s primary election, especially the elderly, persons living with disabilities and youths who waited for hours under the sun to cast their votes.
He assured the people of Afikpo and Edda that his representation would bring hope, development and a stronger voice for the constituency in Abuja.
On the forthcoming election, the NDC candidate expressed confidence in his chances, saying voters would ultimately choose candidates based on competence, integrity and capacity to deliver rather than political party affiliation.
A chartered accountant and certified public accountant with over 26 years of professional experience, Agwu said he is also a farmer and remains connected to the grassroots despite residing in the United States.
He dismissed concerns about his overseas residence, explaining that he visits his community several times annually and maintains close contact with the people through his farming activities and other engagements.
