The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has assured all duly screened aspirants of their right to participate in the party’s ongoing primaries, warning that any attempt to block eligible candidates will be considered invalid and contrary to party rules.
In a press statement issued by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Osa Director Esq., the Screening and Selection Committees said reports had reached them alleging that some aspirants were being prevented from taking part in the primaries across the country.
The committee clarified that all aspirants who successfully completed the screening process have been cleared and remain eligible to contest in the primaries. It stressed that no state chapter or party official has the authority to deny any qualified aspirant participation in the exercise, describing such actions as “null, void, and of no effect whatsoever.”
Reaffirming its commitment to internal democracy, the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) said the party remains committed to fairness, transparency, accountability, and inclusivity, warning members and officials against actions that undermine its constitutional guidelines.
According to the statement, the party’s primaries for presidential, governorship, National Assembly, and State Assembly elections are scheduled to hold nationwide on May 29, 2026. It added that while State Assembly primaries will take place within constituencies, all other primaries will be conducted at the local government level as earlier communicated.
