The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has granted waivers to former Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, and former Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Victor Ochei, to contest the Delta Central and Delta North Senatorial seats respectively in the 2027 general elections.
The party disclosed this in a press statement signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Osa Director Esq., following the formal defection of both political figures from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to the NDC.
According to the statement, the waivers were approved in recognition of the political experience, leadership capacity, and commitment of the two politicians to democratic ideals and public service.
“The NDC warmly welcomes both distinguished political leaders into the party and assures them of a credible, inclusive, and people-oriented platform to advance their political aspirations and contribute meaningfully to the development of Delta State and Nigeria at large,” the statement read.
The party leadership expressed confidence in the ability of Senator Omo-Agege and Rt. Hon. Ochei to provide quality representation for their respective senatorial districts, citing their experience and grassroots support as key factors behind the decision.
The NDC further emphasized its commitment to internal democracy, transparency, inclusion, and the collective goal of building a better Delta State and a stronger Nigeria.
The development is expected to reshape the political landscape in Delta State ahead of the 2027 elections, as the entry of the two prominent politicians into the NDC signals a major shift in political alignments within the state.
