NDC Sets October for Presidential Campaign Council…Directs States to Prepare Election Agents

The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) says its Presidential Campaign Council (PCC) will be inaugurated in October as the party intensifies preparations for the forthcoming general elections.

The party disclosed this in a statement signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Osa Director Esq., on September 21, 2026.

According to the NDC, its presidential candidate, Peter Obi, and running mate, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, have been consulting with the party’s national leadership on the composition of the campaign council.

The party said Obi and Kwankwaso have been given the responsibility of nominating key officials of the campaign, including the Director-General, Deputy Director-General for the North, campaign spokesperson, deputy spokesperson, Head of New Media, Finance Director and Deputy Finance Director.

The NDC said the nominations would be made in consultation with the party.

It also said campaign funds would be managed jointly by the Finance Director and his deputy, alongside the National Treasurer, stressing that the arrangement was intended to promote transparency and accountability.

The party explained that the structure of the campaign council had already been developed since August and presented to the presidential candidate and his running mate for their input.

The inauguration, initially planned for the first week of September, was postponed because of Obi’s travel schedule, the party said.

But beyond the campaign council, the NDC is also turning its attention to the people who will stand at polling units when voting begins.

The party has directed all state and Local Government Area chairmen to immediately meet with candidates and relevant stakeholders to compile and harmonise lists of party agents for the elections.

According to the directive, two separate sets of agents are to be prepared—one for National Assembly elections and another for governorship and State Assembly elections.

The lists will subsequently be reviewed and ratified by the party leadership before training begins.

The party gave the state and LGA leadership two weeks from the date of the directive to complete the exercise and submit the final lists.

The committee overseeing the appointment of party agents is chaired by Deputy National Chairman (South), Babatunde Alli. Other members named are Vin Martin Ilo, Secretary; Dr Yunusa Tanko; Nafiu Dankura; and the National Vice Chairmen representing the six geopolitical zones.

The NDC also appealed to its candidates and their supporters to avoid internal disputes and concentrate on the elections.

“There are no battles to fight within the NDC,” the party said, urging its members to focus on defeating the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

The party said its goal was for its candidates at all levels to win and stressed that its candidates were contesting under the party rather than as independent candidates.

With the PCC expected to take shape in October and preparations for polling agents already underway, the NDC says it is moving from internal consultations to the organisational phase of its election campaign.
