Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State has announced his withdrawal from the All Progressives Congress (APC) gubernatorial primaries, citing the need to prioritize peace, stability, and unity in the state.

In a press statement issued on Wednesday, Fubara said the decision followed “deep reflection and extensive consultations” with his family, friends, and political associates.

The governor described the move as difficult but necessary, stressing that leadership requires sacrifice and placing the collective interest of the state above personal ambition.

“Rivers State is bigger than any individual, and at this critical moment, the peace, stability, and unity of our dear state must take precedence over every personal interest,” he stated.

Fubara pledged his support for whoever emerges as the flagbearer of the APC, reaffirming his commitment to the party and its goals.

Addressing his supporters, the governor expressed gratitude for their loyalty and sacrifices throughout his political journey, acknowledging the disappointment many may feel over his withdrawal.

“I understand the disappointment, the anger, and the pain many of you may feel. Much has indeed been invested and much sacrificed along the way. But please know that your loyalty and trust were never in vain,” he said.

Fubara noted that his silence during the period leading up to the decision was “deliberate and strategic,” guided by what he described as the higher interest of Rivers State.

Without revealing specific details, the governor hinted at pressures and difficult circumstances surrounding his decision.

“As our elders say, not everything a hunter sees in the forest is spoken of in the marketplace. Some truths are best borne quietly, not out of fear, but out of wisdom and restraint for the sake of peace and a greater purpose,” he remarked.

The Rivers governor thanked the APC for providing him with a political platform and also expressed appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his support and encouragement.

He urged party faithful to remain united and committed to strengthening the APC, describing the party as “our collective home.”

Fubara emphasized that his withdrawal should not be interpreted as an act of weakness or surrender but as a sacrifice aimed at fostering peace and unity in Rivers State.

“Let it be clearly understood that I stepped aside not out of weakness, fear, or surrender, but out of conviction and sacrifice so that Rivers State may move forward in peace and unity,” he said.

The governor reaffirmed his dedication to serving the people of Rivers State until the end of his tenure.
