Popular socialite and businessman, Cubana Chief Priest, has lost the All Progressives Congress (APC) House of Representatives primary election for the Owerri Federal Constituency in Imo State.
Cubana Chief Priest, whose real name is Pascal Okechukwu, contested the primary under the platform of the APC but failed to secure enough votes to emerge as the party’s candidate ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The celebrity barman and nightlife entrepreneur, who also serves as the Coordinator of the City Boys Movement, had generated significant attention following his entry into politics. His ambition attracted widespread reactions on social media, with supporters praising his grassroots popularity and critics questioning his political experience.
The primary election, held in Owerri amid tight security and heavy party presence, saw delegates cast their votes for aspirants seeking the APC ticket for the federal constituency seat. Party officials later announced the results, confirming that another aspirant defeated Cubana Chief Priest in the contest.
Despite the outcome, supporters of the socialite gathered around him after the exercise, chanting solidarity songs and encouraging him to remain active in politics. Political observers say his participation in the race signals the growing involvement of entertainers and influencers in Nigeria’s political landscape.
Although Cubana Chief Priest is yet to officially react to the defeat, close associates described the exercise as peaceful and expressed appreciation to supporters who stood by his ambition throughout the campaign period.
The APC primaries across several states have continued to produce surprises as aspirants battle for party tickets ahead of the next general elections. Analysts believe the outcome in Imo State may reshape political alignments within the Owerri Federal Constituency in the coming months.
