A pro-governance group, Ebonyi-First Vanguard, Thursday, called on residents of Ebonyi state to reject what it described as attempts by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and opposition figures to promote sabotage and treachery as political strategy ahead of the 2027 governorship election.

The group particularly condemned comments allegedly made by Chika Nwoba, a social media critics who is assumed to be speaking for an opposition governorship aspirant, accusing him of inciting public officers and citizens against the administration of Governor Francis Nwifuru.

Addressing journalists in Abakaliki, the Director-General of the group, Hon. Monday Eze, described the alleged remarks as reckless and unpatriotic, insisting that opposition politics should focus on constructive criticism and alternative ideas rather than encouraging sabotage of government activities.

Eze stated that government remains the instrument through which roads are built, salaries paid, hospitals operated and schools managed, warning that any deliberate attempt to cripple governance would amount to betrayal of the people.

The group also dismissed allegations against the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, Hon. Uchenna Stephen Igwe, insisting that all government transactions in the state are electronically processed, thereby leaving no room for diversion or manipulation of funds.

According to him, the agribusiness programme organised for ward councillors in the state was designed as an empowerment initiative aimed at making them economically productive after their tenure in office, and not for personal enrichment.

Ebonyi-First Vanguard further defended Governor Francis Nwifuru’s administration, citing achievements in infrastructure, scholarship programmes, healthcare reforms, recruitment into the civil service and payment of gratuities as evidence of people-oriented governance.

The group also maintained that local government financial autonomy was operational in the state and explained that elected councillors could not be dissolved as insinuated in some political commentaries because they were elected under constitutional provisions.

Eze urged public servants and Ebonyi residents to remain loyal to the constitution and resist divisive politics, stressing that democracy should be driven by vision and accountability rather than sabotage and desperation for power. :::
