The Bayelsa State Ministry of Sports has congratulated Governor Douye Diri on the occasion of his 67th birthday, describing him as a visionary leader whose investments have transformed the state’s sports sector.
In a congratulatory message made available to journalists on Thursday, the Commissioner for Sports Development, Honourable Daniel Igali, lauded Governor Diri’s commitment to sports development and his administration’s sustained efforts in providing critical infrastructure and support for athletes across the state.
The message, issued on behalf of the Permanent Secretary, Pereyi Efeke, staff of the ministry, and the entire sports fraternity in Bayelsa State, expressed gratitude to God for the life of the governor and commended his unwavering dedication to advancing sports as a tool for youth empowerment and state development.

Igali, a world and Olympic wrestling champion, noted that Governor Diri’s approach to sports development has been exceptional, citing the simultaneous construction of sporting facilities, improved welfare packages for athletes, and consistent funding for the hosting of national and international sporting events.
According to him, these initiatives have positioned Bayelsa as one of Nigeria’s leading sports destinations and created opportunities for young talents to thrive on local and global stages.
“Governor Douye Diri has demonstrated uncommon leadership through programmes and policies that are anchored on service to the people. His administration’s commitment to sports development is evident in the infrastructure projects, support for athletes, and investments that continue to yield positive results for the state,” Igali said.
The commissioner further stated that the governor’s contributions have not only enhanced sports participation but have also strengthened Bayelsa’s reputation as a hub for sporting excellence in Nigeria.
