Former Minister of State for Health, Engr. Fidelix Nwankwo, has expressed optimism that the presidential candidate of the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, will emerge victorious in the 2027 general election.
Nwankwo said Nigerians, particularly youths and women frustrated by the current economic hardship and poor governance, were prepared not only to vote but also ensure that their votes count.
The former Chairman of Izzi Local Government Area made the remarks on Friday while addressing journalists during the conduct of the NDC primary elections across the 13 local government areas of Ebonyi State.

According to him, the primary election was organised to select candidates who would fly the party’s flag in various elective positions, including the presidency, governorship, National Assembly and state legislative seats.
“What we are doing today is to organise primary elections to pick candidates who will contest different positions, starting from the President, Governor, Senate and House of Representatives, among others,” he stated.
Nwankwo described the NDC as a rapidly growing political movement attracting massive support from Nigerians seeking credible leadership and national rebirth.
He said many citizens now see the party as a platform capable of rescuing the country from its present challenges, adding that the personality and leadership style of Peter Obi had further strengthened public confidence in the party.
“Nigerians are seeing NDC as a party that has come to save them and protect the country. Peter Obi represents hope for the people and for Nigeria as a whole,” he said.
The former minister further argued that Nigerians believed Obi was denied victory in the 2023 presidential election, stressing that the electorate, especially young people, were determined not to allow a repeat in 2027.
“They believe he was robbed in 2023, but this time around, the youths have resolved that such a mistake will not happen again. They will vote and ensure that their votes count,” Nwankwo added.
