Former governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ebonyi state, Ifeanyi Chukwuma Odii, has emerged as the party’s governorship candidate for the 2027 general election.
Odii was returned unopposed in the primary election conducted across the 13 local government areas of the state and monitored by the Independent National Electoral Commission.
Announcing the result at the PDP collation centre in Abakaliki, chairman of the primary election committee, Lekon Rotimi, said the candidate scored a total of 8,281 votes.

“I am glad to announce that from the 13 local government areas of the state, we recorded a total of 8,281 votes for the sole candidate of the PDP.
“After careful collation and verification of the results from all the local government areas, I hereby declare Dr. Ifeanyi Chukwuma Odii as the winner of this governorship primary,” Rotimi stated.
The Ebonyi state chairman of the PDP, Chukwuma Igwe, described the exercise as peaceful and successful, noting that the party adopted consensus arrangements in its primaries.
According to him, the PDP remained united and focused ahead of the 2027 elections.
“We have carried out all our primaries by consensus because PDP is a peaceful family in Ebonyi state. Everything we do is to provide leadership and direction,” Igwe said.
Addressing party supporters after emerging victorious, Odii commended party members for their support and peaceful conduct throughout the exercise.
He urged members to remain united ahead of the 2027 governorship poll, stressing the need to enthrone what he described as people-oriented governance in the state.
Odii accused the current administration in the state of operating a government centred on personal interests rather than the welfare of the people.
“Ebonyi can never become a personal family business and we are here for the rescue of our dear state,” he declared.
He further said his ambition was driven by the desire to restore good governance, improve workers’ welfare and reposition the economy of the state for sustainable development.
“It is time for governance that will benefit both the born and unborn children, governance that will improve the welfare of civil servants, teachers and the generality of Ebonyi people,” he added.
Meanwhile, former senator representing Cross River Central Senatorial District and former PDP governorship candidate in Cross River state, Sandy Onor, emerged the party’s presidential candidate in Ebonyi state after polling 186 votes in the presidential primary conducted by the party.
