The Ebonyi State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has petitioned the party’s national leadership and the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) over an alleged plan to revoke the land on which its state secretariat is located.
The party said the move, if carried out, would amount to political intimidation and a threat to democratic principles in the state.
In a statement signed by its Publicity Secretary, Prince Darlington Peter Onwe, the PDP expressed concern over reports alleging that Governor Francis Nwifuru made remarks suggesting possible government action against the property.

According to the party, the alleged comments have raised fears about the treatment of opposition parties and the protection of constitutionally guaranteed political rights.
The PDP argued that any attempt to revoke the land would violate provisions of the 1999 Constitution, particularly sections protecting freedom of expression and association.
The opposition party also cited the Land Use Act, stressing that land revocation must be based on overriding public interest and follow due legal process.
It said the matter had been reported to the party’s national leadership and the NBA to ensure close monitorincg of developments in Ebonyi State.
The PDP further called on civil society organisations, lawyers, and democracy advocates to remain alert and resist any action capable of undermining political pluralism.
Reaffirming its commitment to lawful political engagement, the party vowed to challenge any move against its secretariat through all available legal channels.
The Ebonyi State Government had not responded to the allegations as of the time of this report.
