Kogi Polytechnic withdraws 229 students over poor academic performanceThe Academic Board of Kogi State Polytechnic has approved the first semester results for the 2025/2026 academic session and ordered the withdrawal of 229 students over poor academic performance.

This was disclosed in a statement issued on Friday by the institution’s Acting Coordinator of Public Relations and Protocols, John Amos Onimisi, and made available to journalists in Lokoja.

According to the statement, the decision was reached during the Academic Board meeting held on May 12, 2026, under the chairmanship of the Rector, Professor Salihu Sanusi Avidime.

Onimisi said the meeting was attended by principal officers, deans, heads of departments, and other members of the Academic Board, who deliberated extensively on academic matters affecting the institution.

He explained that the approval of the semester results followed a rigorous verification exercise conducted by the Academic Board Central Results Verification Committee.

“The committee carefully scrutinized and authenticated the submissions from various departments and schools to ensure accuracy, fairness, and compliance with the Polytechnic’s academic regulations. The committee’s report subsequently served as a critical guide in the Academic Board’s deliberations and final decisions on the results,” he said.

The spokesman added that the rector commended members of the verification committee for their diligence, professionalism, and commitment to maintaining the institution’s academic integrity.

He noted that the committee’s efforts had continued to strengthen educational standards and support the production of competent graduates capable of excelling in their various fields.

Onimisi further stated that the decision to withdraw the affected students was taken in the overall interest of sustaining academic excellence and preserving the quality of certificates awarded by the institution.

He stressed that the measure was in line with the Polytechnic’s academic regulations and aimed at encouraging seriousness, discipline, and improved academic commitment among students across all programmes.
