The presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) for the 2027 general election, Mr Peter Obi, has outlined his vision for a more prosperous and inclusive Nigeria following a high-level meeting with the Swiss Ambassador to Nigeria, Mr Patrick Egloff.
In a post on his official X account, Mr Obi described the discussions as “productive and engaging”, focusing on Nigeria’s developmental trajectory with particular emphasis on three critical sectors: education, healthcare, and poverty alleviation.
“Strengthening development through partnership,” Mr Obi wrote. “Yesterday, I met with the Swiss Ambassador to Nigeria, Mr Patrick Egloff, and we had a productive and engaging discussion on our country’s developmental journey, with particular emphasis on the critical sectors that drive development: education, healthcare, and lifting people out of poverty.”
The former Anambra State governor expressed his gratitude for the Swiss Confederation’s long-standing contributions to Nigeria’s development.
He specifically acknowledged Swiss support for economic, cultural, humanitarian, and peace-building initiatives, most notably in the conflict-affected North-East region, where Switzerland has been an active partner in stabilisation and recovery efforts.
Mr Obi emphasised that building stronger international partnerships rooted in shared values and a genuine commitment to human development is essential for creating a Nigeria that works for all its citizens.
He reaffirmed his campaign message by concluding with the slogan: “A New Nigeria is POssible.”
The meeting comes as Mr Obi intensifies his outreach to international partners and diplomatic missions ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
His NDC party has positioned him as a candidate of transformational change, advocating for transparent governance, investment in human capital, and a break from the patronage politics of the past.
Diplomatic observers note that Switzerland has consistently supported governance reform and humanitarian programmes in Nigeria, making it a key development partner for any future administration.
