The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has distanced itself from candidate lists currently circulating on social media, describing them as fake and unauthorized.
In a statement issued by the party’s National Secretary, Barrister Ikenna Alex-Morgan Enekweizu, the NDC called on members in Imo, Abia, Anambra, and other affected states to disregard the purported lists, insisting they did not originate from the party’s national headquarters.
According to the statement, the party has already submitted the authentic list of candidates who will represent the NDC in forthcoming elections to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) through the appropriate channels as stipulated by the Electoral Act.
“The lists in circulation are fake and did not emanate from the party headquarters,” Enekweizu stated, adding that the party remains committed to due process and transparency in its electoral activities.
The NDC accused unnamed individuals of deliberately spreading false information to create confusion and sow discord within the party. It described those behind the circulation of the lists as “mischief makers” who do not have the party’s interests at heart.
The party further disclosed that it has commenced investigations to uncover the sources of the alleged fabrications and unauthorized leakages, describing the development as a desperate attempt to distract the organization and undermine its internal processes.
Despite the controversy, the NDC reassured its members and supporters of its commitment to building a strong political platform capable of addressing Nigeria’s current challenges.
The party urged members to remain united and focused on its mission of providing an alternative political vehicle for national development and liberation from what it described as the country’s present difficult condition.
The statement concluded with a call for continued cooperation and support from party faithful as preparations continue for upcoming electoral activities.
