The Obidient Movement has dismissed reports suggesting internal divisions within its ranks, describing such claims as deliberate attempts to misrepresent the nature and strength of the citizen-led political movement.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, the spokesman of the Peter Obi Movement for Reforms (POMR), Ibrahim Umar, said the movement remains united and committed to the principles of accountability, economic development, fairness, and competent leadership championed by its principal, Peter Obi.

Umar stated that what some observers interpret as disunity is actually the natural evolution of a decentralised movement driven by citizens who share a common vision for a better Nigeria.

According to him, the Obidient Movement is not structured like a traditional political organisation with a rigid chain of command, but rather operates as a coalition of individuals and groups united by shared values and aspirations.

“The Obidient Movement embodies an idea of governance anchored on accountability and the principles of Peter Obi. While different civic groups may adopt varying approaches, their objective remains the same – the realization of a New Nigeria,” he said.

The spokesman noted that the decentralised nature of the movement serves as one of its greatest strengths, arguing that the absence of a central leadership structure prevents any individual or group from hijacking or compromising the aspirations of millions of supporters.

He stressed that the movement belongs to ordinary Nigerians rather than a select group of politicians, adding that its mission remains firmly aligned with Obi’s approach to governance.

Umar further declared that there is no disagreement within the movement regarding its core objective of ending what he described as transactional politics in Nigeria.

He urged supporters and members of the public to disregard reports of internal crises, insisting that the movement remains focused on achieving socio-economic transformation and national development.

“We implore the public and our vast network of supporters across the world to dismiss these orchestrated campaigns of distraction. The movement is united, vigilant, and singularly focused on the socio-economic liberation of Nigeria,” the statement added.

The statement was signed by Ibrahim Umar, spokesman of the Peter Obi Movement for Reforms (POMR), and dated June 17, 2026.
