… says women in elective office are credible solution to Nigeria’s problems, urges Tinubu to tackle cost of living
By Owen Eresoyen, Benin
A grassroots political chieftain,
Princess Abiemwense, has decried the continued absence of women in elective positions, describing it as a major setback to Nigeria’s development.
Speaking to journalists in Benin City, Edo State, on Wednesday, the leader of Divas International, expressed regret over what she called the “nonchalant interest” of women in politics and the lack of trust shown by party leaders, who are mostly men.
“The political socialization of our country will remain moribund if women continue to be sidelined in all shares of power,” she said. “My pain is the brush-aside mannerism of men who are privileged to lead political parties, yet give opportunities only to their fellow men.”

Princess Abiemwense noted that NGOs are not doing enough to sensitize the growing Nigerian society on the need for strong economic values and inclusive governance. She reflected on the popular song by late music legend ,Ambassador Osayomore Joseph, ‘Give Woman a Chance’, insisting that “a woman is better as President of Nigeria in 2027” if given the opportunity.
The Divas International leader also called on President Bola Tinubu to redouble efforts to make food items, petroleum, and electricity affordable.
“The cost of living in Nigeria at present portends a serious taboo and is unbearable for the average citizen,” she said. “Women in power will bring empathy, prudence, and credible solutions to these problems.”
