Nembe – For years, traders and residents of Nembe Creek in Nembe Local Government Area have conducted their weekly market activities under challenging conditions. Without proper market structures, sellers were often exposed to harsh weather conditions, while buyers struggled with the inconveniences associated with an open and poorly organized trading environment.
Today, that narrative is changing, thanks to the intervention of the Councillor representing Nembe Ward 8 in the Legislative Council, Hon. Naomi Furo Igbeta, who has successfully completed and delivered a 12-room market complex as part of her ward development project.
The newly constructed market, strategically located within the community, is already being hailed as a landmark achievement and a major boost to economic activities in the area.

Nembe Creek, one of the most densely populated communities in the ward, operates a weekly market system that serves as a commercial hub for residents and neighboring settlements. Despite the importance of the market to local livelihoods, traders had for many years operated without permanent shops or adequate shelter.
During rainy seasons, business activities were frequently disrupted, while the scorching sun often made trading uncomfortable for both sellers and customers. The lack of proper market infrastructure also limited opportunities for expansion and growth.
Recognizing these challenges, Hon. Igbeta embarked on the construction of the 12-room market complex to provide traders with a safer, more organized and conducive environment for commerce.
The project represents more than just a physical structure. It symbolizes a commitment to grassroots development and a practical response to the needs of the people.
Residents say the market will significantly improve trading activities by providing secure spaces for vendors to display and store their goods. It will also encourage greater participation in the weekly market, attract more buyers and create opportunities for small-scale entrepreneurs to expand their businesses.
Community members have described the project as timely and impactful, noting that it is the first development of its kind in the area. Many believe it will become a catalyst for local economic growth and contribute to improving the standard of living of residents.
The market complex is expected to serve as a protective shield against adverse weather conditions, enabling traders to carry out their businesses with greater confidence and stability. Beyond its immediate benefits, the project is also expected to stimulate commercial activities and strengthen social interactions within the community.
For Hon. Naomi Furo Igbeta, the completion of the market project reflects her dedication to people-oriented leadership and responsive representation. By identifying a longstanding challenge and providing a sustainable solution, she has demonstrated the value of grassroots governance and community-focused development.
As traders prepare to occupy the new shops and residents look forward to a more vibrant market environment, the 12-room market stands as a visible testament to what purposeful leadership can achieve.
In Nembe Creek, where generations of traders have endured difficult market conditions, a new chapter has begun—one built on opportunity, economic empowerment and hope for a more prosperous future.
