The World Health Organization (WHO) and the Private Sector Health Alliance of Nigeria (PSHAN) have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening healthcare investments and expanding access to quality primary healthcare services across Nigeria.

This followed a courtesy visit by the Director of Policy at PSHAN, Dr. Anne Adah-Ogoh, to the WHO Country Representative in Nigeria, Dr. Pavel Ursu.

During the meeting, both parties reviewed the impact of the Adopt-A-Healthcare Facility Programme (ADHFP) and explored opportunities for deeper collaboration, including WHO’s proposed adoption of 36 Primary Healthcare Centres (PHCs), with one facility located in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

The WHO-PSHAN partnership under the ADHFP has recorded notable achievements in improving healthcare delivery across 33 states and the FCT, with 60 PHCs revitalized and made fully functional.

According to figures presented during the meeting, the programme has enabled 711,272 people to access quality healthcare services, while 274,612 children under one year were immunized.

Additionally, 16,677 community outreaches were conducted, 76,500 antenatal care services provided, 38,860 family planning acceptors recorded, and 31,117 malaria cases among children under five treated.

The discussions also focused on expanding digital health coverage and mobilizing greater domestic private sector resources to strengthen Nigeria’s health system.

Both organizations expressed optimism that successful healthcare models developed through the partnership could be scaled to other African countries.

The renewed collaboration, stakeholders noted, represents a significant step toward building a more resilient and sustainable primary healthcare system capable of delivering improved health outcomes for all Nigerians.
