President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has commended the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for dismantling a sophisticated trans-border drug trafficking network involving Nigerian and Mexican operatives, describing the operation as a major victory in the fight against organised crime and narcotics trafficking.

The President’s commendation followed the announcement by NDLEA Chairman, Brigadier General Mohammed Buba Marwa (retd), of a massive drug bust carried out after weeks of intelligence gathering and coordinated operations with international partners.

According to a statement issued by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the operation led to the arrest of foreign nationals, local drug kingpins and several collaborators linked to the illicit network.

Large quantities of chemicals and illicit drugs reportedly valued at over 360 million dollars were also seized during the operation.

President Tinubu praised the agency’s operatives for their professionalism, courage and dedication in executing the mission.

“This successful operation, which led to the arrest of foreign nationals, local kingpins and other collaborators, as well as the seizure of chemicals and illicit drugs valued at over 360 million dollars, demonstrates exceptional professionalism, courage and unwavering commitment to safeguarding society from the devastating effects of narcotics,” the President said.

He further lauded the bravery and resilience of NDLEA personnel, urging them to remain vigilant and avoid complacency in confronting the growing threat of drug trafficking.

Tinubu expressed concern over the increasing use of West Africa as a transit hub for narcotics, noting that international drug cartels now exploit the region to move cocaine, synthetic drugs and unregulated pharmaceuticals to Europe and North America.

“Drugs not only pose a critical security threat for our region, but they also pose a grave danger to the future of our youth, some of whom have become victims of the trade,” he stated.

The President called on Nigerians to support security agencies by reporting suspicious activities within their communities, stressing that the fight against illicit drugs should not be left to the NDLEA alone.

Describing the operation as a landmark success, Tinubu maintained that the achievement sends a strong signal that Nigeria will not tolerate organised crime and criminality, warning that those who threaten public safety and national security would face the full weight of the law.
