President Donald Trump has announced that he will not attend his son Donald Trump Jr.’s wedding, saying his responsibilities as president and his “love for the United States of America” must come first during what he described as an “important period of time.”
In a statement released on Friday, Trump expressed regret over the decision but insisted that national obligations would not allow him to step away from the White House for the family ceremony.
“While I very much wanted to be with my son, Don Jr., and the newest member of the Trump Family, his soon to be wife, Bettina, circumstances pertaining to Government, and my love for the United States of America, do not allow me to do so,” Trump said.

He added that the demands of leadership at this time required his full attention, emphasizing that “the office of the presidency comes with sacrifices, even personal ones.”
White House officials did not immediately provide further details on the specific government matters influencing the president’s decision, but aides described the schedule as “highly sensitive and demanding.”
The announcement quickly drew attention across political and social circles, with supporters praising what they called Trump’s commitment to duty, while critics questioned the timing and tone of the statement.
One senior administration official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said the president had “struggled with the decision privately” but ultimately chose to remain in Washington due to “ongoing national priorities that cannot be postponed.”
Donald Trump Jr. has not publicly commented on his father’s decision as of press time. However, sources close to the family say preparations for the wedding are continuing as planned and that the event remains “a joyful occasion despite the president’s absence.”
Trump concluded his statement by sending his well wishes to the couple, saying, “I know it will be a beautiful and unforgettable day for Don Jr. and Bettina, and I wish them a lifetime of happiness and success together.”
The wedding is expected to take place later this month in a private ceremony attended by close family members and friends.
