The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Caretaker Committee in Oyo State has called on the Turaki-led faction of the party to embrace reconciliation and internal dialogue rather than pursuing what it described as an “elusive and futile” legal battle.
The call followed a recent judgment of the Federal High Court sitting in Ibadan, which nullified the PDP National Convention allegedly organised by the Turaki-led group in the city on November 15 and 16, 2025.
While reacting to the ruling on Monday, the Oyo State PDP Caretaker Committee congratulated the party’s National Caretaker Committee, led by Alhaji Abdulrahman Muhammed, alongside the National Secretary, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, and other party stakeholders on the court’s decision.
The Federal High Court, presided over by Justice Uche Agomoh, had ruled that the convention and all decisions taken at the gathering were illegal and amounted to nullities. The court further affirmed the National Caretaker Committee as the lawful and recognised governing body of the PDP.
In a press statement signed by the Chairman of the PDP Caretaker Committee in Oyo State, Professor Abdul Rahman Akinoso, and made available to journalists in Ibadan, the party noted that the judgment reinforced earlier rulings by Justices Inyang Ekwo Omotosho and Peter Lifu, which had restrained the conduct of the convention last year.
According to the statement, the suit, filed by the Turaki-led group, sought judicial validation of a National Working Committee purportedly elected at the disputed convention. However, the court dismissed the application, describing it as a “brazen attempt to violate subsisting court orders.”
The Oyo PDP Caretaker Committee said the ruling clearly underscored the need for aggrieved members to return to the fold and work towards party cohesion rather than prolong internal disputes through litigation.
“The Oyo State PDP Caretaker Committee urges the Turaki-led group to seek reconciliation instead of pursuing a futile legal battle,” the statement read. “The PDP remains committed to unity, internal democracy and the rule of law.”
The committee reaffirmed its loyalty to the National Caretaker Committee and pledged to support efforts aimed at rebuilding and repositioning the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.
It also called on all PDP members across the country to rally behind the recognised leadership of the party, strengthen its structures at all levels, and work collectively to restore the PDP’s standing as Nigeria’s leading
