Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, has officially resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), citing the need for an alternative political platform to better serve the people of the state.
The resignation was conveyed in a letter dated December 29, 2025, and addressed to the PDP Chairman of Ampang West Ward, Dasjak Sunday Longyol. A copy of the letter was obtained by our correspondent in Jos, the Plateau State capital, on Thursday.
In the letter, which he personally signed, the governor expressed appreciation to the PDP for giving him the opportunity to participate in the democratic process and for the support he received during his time in the party.
Mutfwang explained that his decision to quit the PDP was guided by his commitment to purposeful leadership, clarity of direction, and effective service delivery to the people of Plateau State.
“I write to formally notify you of my resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party with immediate effect,” the letter read.
“I sincerely appreciate the PDP for providing me the political platform to participate in the democratic process. I appreciate the support of party leaders, members, and supporters at all levels during my time in the party, and I remain grateful for the trust reposed in me.”
As of the time of filing this report, the governor did not disclose his next political destination, and the PDP leadership in the state has yet to issue an official response to his resignation.
The development marks a significant shift in Plateau State’s political landscape and is expected to spark reactions within the state and beyond in the coming days.
