Behind every police officer who leaves home to confront the risks and pressures of policing is often a family quietly waiting, worrying and providing the emotional strength needed to keep going.
It was against this backdrop that the Commissioner of Police, Bayelsa State Command, CP Ajao Saka Adewale, on Tuesday commended the Police Officers’ Wives Association (POWA) for its contributions to the welfare, unity and empowerment of police families.
The Commissioner spoke when the executives of the Bayelsa State chapter of POWA, led by its Chairperson, Alhaja Ajao Serifat Olawunmi, paid him a courtesy visit at the Command Headquarters in Yenagoa.
The visit provided an opportunity for the association to appreciate the Commissioner and the Command for their support and cooperation since his assumption of duty.
Speaking during the visit, Alhaja Ajao Serifat expressed appreciation to the Commissioner for what she described as his unwavering support and fatherly encouragement towards the association.
She said the Command’s attention to the welfare of police personnel and their families had helped create an enabling environment for POWA to pursue its programmes and initiatives.
As part of the visit, the POWA Chairperson presented gifts to officers of the Command as a token of appreciation for their sacrifices, dedication and service to the people of Bayelsa State.
Receiving the association, CP Ajao praised the leadership and members of Bayelsa POWA for their selfless service and commitment to the wellbeing of police families.
The Commissioner noted that the responsibilities of police officers’ wives go beyond managing their homes, describing them as an important support system for personnel who routinely face the difficult realities of policing.
According to him, the patience, encouragement and emotional support provided by families often help officers cope with the pressures associated with their duties.
He further stated that POWA’s interventions in family welfare, empowerment and support complement the Command’s efforts to maintain a motivated and resilient workforce.
CP Ajao assured the association of the Command’s continued support and cooperation, urging its leadership to sustain programmes that promote family welfare, empowerment and unity among police families.
The Commissioner’s remarks placed attention on an often less visible side of policing — the families whose support helps officers remain committed to their duties even when the job takes them into difficult and uncertain situations.
The visit ended on a note of mutual appreciation, with both the Command and POWA reaffirming the importance of cooperation in strengthening the welfare and unity of police families in Bayelsa State.
