Political activist and former Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the APC, Timi Frank, has dismissed claims that the recent letter from United States President Donald Trump to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu amounts to an endorsement of the Nigerian leader’s administration.

Reacting to the development, Frank described the correspondence as a routine diplomatic communication between two heads of state, urging Nigerians not to interpret it as an expression of political support or approval of Tinubu’s government.

Trump had, in the letter, commended Tinubu’s efforts to combat terrorism and reaffirmed the United States’ commitment to strengthening security cooperation with Nigeria through intelligence sharing, military training, and other collaborative measures.

However, Frank argued that such exchanges are common in international diplomacy and should not be politicized.

According to him, letters between world leaders often reflect bilateral relations and shared interests rather than endorsements of a country’s domestic policies or political leadership.

His remarks come amid growing public debate over the significance of Trump’s message, with supporters of the administration portraying it as evidence of international confidence in Tinubu’s leadership, while critics insist it should not be misconstrued as foreign backing for the government.

The differing interpretations have sparked discussions on social media and within political circles over the implications of the letter for Nigeria’s diplomatic standing and internal politics.

While the Presidency has highlighted the communication as a sign of strengthening ties between Nigeria and the United States, Frank maintains that it remains a standard diplomatic exchange focused on security cooperation and should not be viewed as an endorsement of President Tinubu or his administration.
