A young woman from Anambra State has died in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, in circumstances that have left her family and residents of Bossy Water Road, Tombia, in shock.

The deceased, whose identity had not been officially released at the time of filing this report, was said to have been living with her partner, with whom she had two children.

Residents told reporters that the woman was seen in distress shortly before her death. Witnesses claimed she appeared exhausted, restless and dehydrated as she reportedly sought water from neighbours in an apparent attempt to regain her strength.

While the exact cause of death has not been confirmed by medical authorities, some residents alleged that she had struggled with substance abuse in recent years. They further claimed that her partner introduced her to hard drugs, including a substance locally known as “Kolos.” These claims, however, remain unverified.

The incident has also revived concerns over an ongoing family dispute involving the couple’s children. Community members alleged that one of the children had been taken away by the father, while the second child is currently with the deceased’s family. The allegations have not been independently confirmed.

Some relatives also accused the deceased’s partner of previous acts of violence and intimidation against members of her family. There has been no official statement from the accused, and law enforcement authorities have yet to comment on the allegations.

The tragic death has sparked conversations among residents about the growing menace of drug abuse among young people and the need for stronger family and community support systems to protect vulnerable women.

As of the time of this report, the police had not released an official statement on the incident, and the cause of death is expected to be determined through appropriate investigations.
