The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has introduced a new educational support initiative aimed at opening more opportunities for students across the country.

The programme, known as the Constituency Scholarship and Talent Development Scheme (CSTDS), is designed to provide scholarships, mentorship, skills development, and international exposure for Nigerian students through partnerships with members of the National Assembly and State Houses of Assembly.

Speaking on the initiative in a statement released to journalists in Lokoja on Monday, NANS President, Comrade Babatunde Akinteye, popularly known as Babtee, described the scheme as a game-changer for students who often face financial and geographical barriers to quality education.

According to him, the programme is not just about paying school fees but creating lasting opportunities that can shape students’ academic and professional futures.

“This initiative is a major step forward in ensuring that Nigerian students are not limited by geography or financial constraints. Beyond scholarships, we are creating pathways that will help students achieve long-term academic and career success,” Akinteye said.

He explained that the scheme would allow lawmakers to channel constituency resources into a transparent and structured system that directly supports students in their educational pursuits.

Also speaking, NANS Director of International Projects and Partnerships, Comrade Abraham Temitayo Adewoye, said the initiative would connect Nigerian students to global opportunities through partnerships in the United Kingdom, the United States, and other parts of Europe.

“We are building a bridge between Nigerian students and the global academic community. Through this programme, beneficiaries will gain exposure to international standards, networks, and opportunities that will better prepare them for the future,” Adewoye stated.

He assured students that the programme would reach every constituency in the country, emphasizing that no region would be left out.

“This opportunity is designed to impact every constituency in Nigeria. We are committed to ensuring that students from all parts of the country benefit. The NANS President has opened a new door of opportunities that many students previously could not access,” he added.

Adewoye further pledged that the programme would be implemented with transparency, accountability, and measurable results.

According to NANS, the CSTDS will focus on three key areas: scholarship support, international academic exposure, and mentorship and skills development.

Under the scheme, each participating constituency is expected to sponsor between 20 and 30 students annually, while at least 10 beneficiaries will be selected for international exposure programmes.

The association has called on senators, members of the House of Representatives, and state lawmakers to adopt the initiative as part of their constituency development efforts.

NANS noted that the programme can be funded through existing channels such as constituency project allocations, education intervention funds, and youth empowerment budgets.

Representing over 50 million Nigerian students both at home and in the diaspora, the association said the launch of the CSTDS reflects its continued commitment to improving student welfare and expanding access to quality education and global opportunities.
