The Commissioner of Police in Bayelsa State, CP Iyamah Daniel Edebor, has directed police commanders across the state to strengthen security measures and intensify proactive policing to ensure the safety of residents.
The directive was issued during a strategic security briefing held on Thursday, June 19, 2026, at the State Police Command Headquarters in Yenagoa. The meeting brought together Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers (DPOs), heads of tactical units, and other senior officers of the command.
Addressing the officers, CP Iyamah emphasized the need for enhanced operational efficiency, improved public trust, and stronger collaboration between the police and communities.

He urged officers to deepen community engagement by maintaining closer relationships with residents and key stakeholders, stressing that people-friendly policing, respect for human rights, and prompt response to public concerns are critical to effective law enforcement and sustainable peace.
The police commissioner also charged commanders to intensify security operations in every part of the state, including remote communities, through intelligence-led policing, visibility patrols, and increased vigilance.
As part of efforts to improve public safety and crime detection, CP Iyamah ordered strict enforcement against the use of covered or obscured vehicle number plates. According to him, such practices undermine investigations and hinder the identification of criminal elements.
Reaffirming the command’s commitment to maintaining peace and security, the CP called on residents to continue supporting the police with credible and timely information that could aid crime prevention and law enforcement efforts.
He assured Bayelsans that the command remains dedicated to sustaining proactive policing strategies aimed at protecting lives and property across the state.
For emergencies and distress calls, members of the public can contact the Bayelsa State Police Command Control Room on 07034578208 or 09167326991.
The statement was signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Musa Mohammed, on behalf of the Bayelsa State Police Command.
