Two United Airlines jets collided on the tarmac at Chicago O’Hare International Airport on Friday afternoon, causing minor damage but no injuries, airport officials confirmed.
The incident occurred when one of the aircraft — United Flight 4590 — made contact with another parked United plane while taxiing toward its gate. Both planes sustained damage to their wings, prompting ground crews and emergency responders to rush to the scene.
Photos shared on social media platform X showed the two aircraft standing side by side on the runway, their wingtips visibly touching. The images quickly drew attention from travelers and aviation enthusiasts alike.
A spokesperson for United Airlines said all passengers were safe and deplaned normally. “There were no injuries reported, and we are working with authorities to assess the damage,” the airline said in a statement.
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has launched an investigation into the cause of the collision. Airport operations continued without significant disruption, though nearby gates experienced brief delays.
Chicago O’Hare, one of the busiest airports in the United States, has occasionally experienced similar minor ground collisions due to heavy traffic and complex taxiway movements.
