INEC Seeks Stronger Partnership with Air Force for 2027 ElectionsBy Our Reporter
The Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Joash Amupitan, has reaffirmed the Commission’s commitment to strengthening its partnership with the Nigerian Air Force to improve logistics and security for the 2027 general elections.
Amupitan stated this while responding to assurances of support from the Air Force during a courtesy visit by its officials to the Commission’s headquarters in Abuja.
During the visit, the Nigerian Air Force pledged to provide logistics support to the electoral body and work alongside other security agencies to ensure the safety of electoral personnel and materials throughout the election period.
Reacting to the pledge, the INEC Chairman stressed that efficient logistics play a vital role in the success of any election, noting that the Commission has faced several operational challenges in that area over the years.
He explained that the engagement with the Air Force leadership had revealed significant opportunities within the military’s logistics capacity that could be utilised to strengthen election operations.
According to him, earlier discussions between both parties provided valuable insights into how the Commission could leverage military logistics to address recurring challenges experienced during election deployments.
Amupitan added that INEC remains open to closer collaboration with the Nigerian Air Force and other branches of the armed forces to enhance coordination and ensure the smooth transportation of personnel and electoral materials during the 2027 general elections.
He noted that such cooperation would greatly improve the Commission’s logistics framework and contribute to the successful conduct of elections across the country.
