The Governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to empowering women and promoting gender equality across the state.

In a goodwill message to mark the 2026 celebration of International Women’s Day, Fubara praised the strength, resilience and contributions of women to the development of Rivers State, Nigeria and the global community.

The governor said women play a vital role in shaping society and driving progress in communities, workplaces and homes.

“As governor, I am proud to stand in solidarity with our women, recognising their pivotal role in shaping our society,” he stated.

Fubara commended women in Rivers State for their dedication and tireless efforts, noting that their courage and determination continue to inspire progress and prosperity.

“To the women of Rivers State, your tireless efforts in our communities, workplaces and homes inspire us all. Your courage and determination drive progress and prosperity,” he added.

He urged stakeholders to continue creating opportunities that would enable women to thrive and reach their full potential.

“As we mark International Women’s Day, let us reaffirm our commitment to empowering women and promoting gender equality. Let us create opportunities for women to thrive and reach their full potential,” the governor said.

Fubara also saluted women across the state and beyond, describing their strength as a critical pillar for sustainable development.

The statement, signed by the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Onwuka Nzeshi, highlighted some of the administration’s efforts to promote women’s development in the state.

According to the statement, the government has demonstrated its commitment to gender inclusion through the appointment of women into key leadership positions.

It added that the administration has also supported initiatives aimed at improving women’s economic wellbeing, including the Women Economic Empowerment Programme, which provided grants of N50,000 each to about 1,000 women to support their businesses.

The statement further noted that the governor’s wife, Valerie Fubara, has also been instrumental in supporting women-focused initiatives.

Through the Renewed Hope Initiative Women Agricultural Support Programme, she presented N10 million to 20 women farmers to boost agricultural productivity.

The state government also collaborated with the National Directorate of Employment to create job opportunities and empower women and youths across Rivers State.

The government reaffirmed its commitment to implementing policies and programmes that will continue to advance gender equality and economic empowerment for women in the state.
