APC Returns Okoro-Emegha as Ebonyi Chairman By Amara Agha Abakaliki

The Ebonyi State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has returned Chief Stanley Okoro-Emegha as its State Chairman following the party’s State Congress held on Tuesday in Abakaliki.

Okoro-Emegha was re-elected alongside Hon. Chinedu Alphonsus Nwali as State Deputy Chairman and Chief Charles Chukwuma Ofoke as State Secretary.

The trio, together with 33 other members, will serve another four-year term as part of the 36-member State Working Committee (SWC).

The congress, held at the Ngele Oruta Township Stadium, saw all SWC members returned unopposed through a consensus arrangement in line with the party’s constitution and guidelines.

The motion adopting the consensus candidates was moved by Senator Onyekachi Nwebonyi, representing Ebonyi North Senatorial District and Deputy Chief Whip of the Senate, and seconded by the Speaker of the Ebonyi State House of Assembly, Chief Moses Ije Odunwa.

Addressing party faithful, Governor Francis Nwifuru, who is the leader of the APC in the state, attributed the peaceful conduct of the congress to the leadership of President Bola Tinubu.

He said the President’s role as national leader of the party had ensured unity, stability and cohesion within the APC.

Nwifuru commended party stakeholders in the state for embracing consensus, noting that the decision helped to eliminate rancour and strengthen internal harmony. He further disclosed that all members of the Ebonyi State House of Assembly and National Assembly from the state are now members of the APC, describing the development as a significant milestone for the party.

In his acceptance speech, Okoro-Emegha, speaking on behalf of the SWC, thanked the governor and party leaders for their renewed confidence. He pledged that the executive would continue to advance, project and protect the interests of the party and its leadership in the state.

Chairperson of the APC Electoral Committee and former Speaker of the Anambra State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Rita Maduagwu, affirmed that the consensus process complied fully with the party’s constitution and guidelines for the conduct of congresses.

The event was attended by party leaders, lawmakers both National and State and stakeholders from across Ebonyi State.
