Popular social media commentator, Martin Martins Vincent Otse, widely known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), has taken a swipe at Seyi Tinubu, son of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, accusing him of desperation for political power ahead of the 2027 general elections.
VDM made the allegation during one of his regular social media commentaries on national issues, where he questioned what he described as early and unusual political campaigning allegedly linked to the President’s son. According to him, the activities appear to be taking place even before the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) officially opens the campaign window for the 2027 elections.
The social media critic claimed he recently came across posters bearing Seyi Tinubu’s image while lodging at a hotel in Morocco, where the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) is being hosted. VDM expressed shock at seeing what he interpreted as campaign materials outside Nigeria, insisting that such a move signals excessive ambition and desperation.
In a video that has since gone viral, VeryDarkMan questioned the relevance of Seyi Tinubu’s presence or promotion in Morocco, especially during a major football tournament.
“Seyi Tinubu, you carry this your campaign serious o. I enter hotel for Morocco, guess who dey for the bar — Seyi Tinubu. APC una carry this thing reach Morocco? Seyi na footballer? Una don really desperate. Wetin your picture dey do for here?” he said in a mix of English and Pidgin.
VDM further argued that Seyi Tinubu has no known official role or business connected to AFCON, making the alleged appearance of his posters in Morocco suspicious. He suggested that the development reinforces growing speculation that the President’s son is quietly positioning himself for a major political role ahead of 2027.
The criticism comes amid increasing reports and political whispers that Seyi Tinubu is being tipped as a possible governorship aspirant for Lagos State in the next election cycle. Political observers have noted his rising public visibility, frequent appearances at political and social events, and association with youth-focused initiatives, all of which have fueled speculation about his political ambitions.
Although Seyi Tinubu has not formally declared interest in any elective position, his recent activities have continued to draw public scrutiny, particularly from critics who argue that political dynasties undermine democratic fairness and equal opportunity.
As of the time of filing this report, neither Seyi Tinubu nor the All Progressives Congress (APC) has issued an official response to VeryDarkMan’s allegations. INEC has also maintained its position that political campaigns must strictly adhere to its approved timetable.
The controversy has once again ignited debate on social media about early campaigning, political privilege, and the influence of powerful family names in Nigeria’s democratic process, with many Nigerians sharply divided over VDM’s claims and the broader implications for the 2027 elections.
