Aiyedatiwa Flags Off APC Electronic Membership Registration in Ondo

Ondo State Governor, Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, has formally flagged off the All Progressives Congress (APC) electronic membership registration exercise, describing it as a crucial step toward strengthening the party’s growth, credibility and future planning.

The governor spoke at the flag-off of the APC e-registration training exercise held at the Ondo State Internal Revenue Service (ODIRS) Hall in Akure, the state capital. He said it was important for party members to fully understand both the significance and challenges of the registration drive.

Governor Aiyedatiwa explained that the initiative aligns with the long-standing vision of President Bola Tinubu, noting that what the President had always envisaged for the party is now being implemented. He added that the exercise was not only vital to the APC but also to President Tinubu as the leader of the party.

“This is to tell you how important this exercise is. It is very, very important for our party, not just our party, but the leader of our party, the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” the governor said.

He urged party members to show commitment by taking the exercise seriously, stressing that mobilisation should be based on influence and encouragement rather than coercion. According to him, the e-registration would also promote equalisation, as all members would be registered within the same framework and timeframe, adding that he was personally leading by example.

Emphasising diligence, Governor Aiyedatiwa advised the trainees to pay close attention during the training, noting that the exercise is technology-driven. He said information, education, skills and ICT now drive modern economies and should also be applied to effective party administration.

The governor highlighted the importance of building a credible membership database, explaining that accurate data would enable the party to identify its members, plan effectively and strengthen its internal processes. He disclosed that the registration exercise would end on January 31, giving party officials about 33 to 34 days to register as many members as possible.

He added that participants selected for the training were drawn from various wards, local governments and districts, and were expected to train others. Their selection, he said, reflected the party’s confidence in their capacity. He also urged party officials to ensure that all interested members, including new entrants and those previously registered manually, are captured before the deadline.

Governor Aiyedatiwa said his presence at the event was to personally underscore the importance of the exercise, urging the trainees not to disappoint party leaders.

Speaking at the event, the APC National Vice Chairman (South-West), Hon. Isaac Kekemeke, described the electronic registration as critical to strengthening the party’s structure, internal democracy and credibility ahead of future congresses and primary elections.

Kekemeke said the timing of the exercise underscored the importance the APC attaches to party affairs, noting that the registration was designed to achieve multiple objectives. According to him, these include having verifiable and credible membership data nationwide, allowing new members to become equal members of the party, building a reliable database for congresses and primaries, and enabling members to become regular and financial members of the APC.

He disclosed that the exercise is being personally driven by President Bola Tinubu with the full support of APC governors, stressing that the party is relying on governors to ensure the success of the registration process in their respective states.
