Peter Obi Rules Out Vice-Presidential Slot in 2027By Rhoda Godwin

Former presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Mr. Peter Obi, has declared that he will not serve as a running mate to any candidate in the 2027 general election.

Obi made the declaration on Sunday night while speaking during an X Spaces conversation, where he responded to questions about his political future, leadership ambitions, and ongoing coalition talks ahead of the next election cycle.

The former governor of Anambra State emphasised that his years of political experience and exposure were not acquired to occupy the office of Vice President.

“I am not travelling round the world to learn governance to be Vice President,” Obi said, firmly dismissing speculations that he might accept a secondary role on any presidential ticket in 2027.

Addressing calls for him to formally join the Africa Democratic Congress (ADC), Obi clarified that he does not need to officially defect to the party, noting that he has been part of the ADC coalition from its inception.

“I am not joining ADC. I can’t re-join what I am already a part of,” he stated. “I’ve been part of the coalition from day one.”

Obi further dispelled rumours that any individual within the ADC coalition was stepping down for him, stressing that the alliance is built on collective agreement and mutual respect among its leaders.

“Nobody is stepping down for me in ADC. We have all agreed to work together,” he said.

He also reaffirmed his respect for former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, describing him as a leader he continues to hold in high regard.

“Atiku remains my respected leader,” Obi added.

The comments come amid growing political realignments and coalition discussions as key opposition figures position themselves ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
