Former President Goodluck Jonathan has expressed deep sorrow over the death of the Deputy Governor of Bayelsa State, Senator Lawrence Oborawharievwo Ewhrudjakpo, describing the late politician as an intelligent, humorous and committed public servant whose passing is a great loss to the state and the nation.

In a condolence message shared on his official social media handle, Jonathan said Ewhrudjakpo’s death had left a painful void in Bayelsa State and beyond, noting that the late deputy governor distinguished himself through selfless service and dedication to good governance.

According to the former Nigerian leader, Ewhrudjakpo was widely respected for his forthrightness, depth of intellect and unwavering commitment to the development of Bayelsa State.

“His passing is a profound loss to the Government and people of Bayelsa State, his immediate family and to all of us who knew him closely,” Jonathan stated.

“He will be remembered for his forthrightness, dedication to service, and steadfast commitment to the development and progress of Bayelsa,” he added.

Jonathan also commiserated with Governor Douye Diri, the Bayelsa State Government and the Ewhrudjakpo family, urging them to take solace in the impactful life the late deputy governor lived.

The former president prayed for the peaceful repose of Ewhrudjakpo’s soul and asked God to grant strength and comfort to his family, colleagues and the people of Bayelsa State during the period of mourning.

Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, who served as deputy governor under Governor Douye Diri, was regarded as a seasoned administrator and politician whose contributions to governance and public service left a lasting imprint on Bayelsa State.
