Prosperity Cup DG Commiserates with Bayelsa Government, Ewhrudjakpo Family

Organisers of the Bayelsa State Governor’s Football Tournament, popularly known as the Prosperity Cup, have expressed deep sorrow over the sudden passing of the Deputy Governor of Bayelsa State, His Excellency, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo.

In a statement issued on Saturday, the Director General of the Prosperity Cup Central Organising Committee, Mr Ono Akpe, conveyed the heartfelt condolences of the tournament organisers to the Executive Governor of Bayelsa State, Senator Douye Diri, the state government and people of Bayelsa, as well as the people of Ofoni Federated Community in Sagbama Local Government Area.

Mr Akpe said the Prosperity Cup family received the news of the Deputy Governor’s death with shock and disbelief, describing it as a painful and untimely loss.

According to the statement, the demise of Senator Ewhrudjakpo is not only a personal loss to his immediate family and constituents but also a major setback to the sporting community in the state, noting that the late Deputy Governor played a key supervisory role in the sports sector.

“The loss of His Excellency is a grave one, particularly to sports development in Bayelsa State, a sector he supervised with passion and commitment until his passing,” the statement read.

The Prosperity Cup organisers extended their deepest sympathies to the Deputy Governor’s wife, Her Excellency, Mrs Beatrice Ewhrudjakpo, their children and other members of the Ewhrudjakpo family.

Mr Akpe noted that the death of the Deputy Governor came at a time when his experience, guidance and wise counsel were most needed, adding that he would be sorely missed by all who worked with him.

The statement concluded with prayers for the peaceful repose of the late Deputy Governor’s soul and for God to grant his family, the Bayelsa State Government and the people of the state the strength and fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.
