Fatal Accident Claims Several Lives in Okaka, Yenagoa

A tragic road accident occurred on Thursday at the Okaka axis of the Sani Abacha Expressway in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, leaving at least three people dead and several others injured.

Eyewitnesses said the crash happened when a timber-laden truck reportedly lost control and collided with a small vehicle and a tricycle popularly known as keke. The impact of the collision caused severe damage to the smaller vehicles and resulted in immediate casualties.

Residents and passers-by rushed to the scene to assist victims before emergency responders arrived. The injured were quickly taken to nearby hospitals for urgent medical attention, while the bodies of those who lost their lives were evacuated.

Traffic along the busy expressway was temporarily disrupted as authorities worked to clear the wreckage and restore order. Security personnel and traffic officers also cordoned off parts of the road to prevent further incidents.

Local sources described the accident as “shocking,” noting that the area is known for heavy vehicular movement, especially trucks transporting goods into Yenagoa. Many residents called on relevant agencies to improve traffic enforcement and ensure stricter safety checks for heavy-duty vehicles.

As of the time of filing this report, officials have not released the identities of the victims, and investigations into the cause of the accident are ongoing.

The Bayelsa State Government and emergency services are expected to issue updates as more information becomes available.t.
