The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, yesterday inaugurated the Leadership and Strategic Studies Course 4/2025 at the Nigerian Army Resource Centre (NARC), Asokoro, Abuja.
The event, held at Hall C of the TY Buratai Building, marked the formal commencement of an eleven-month intensive training programme for selected Direct Regular Course officers of the Nigerian Army.
In his welcome address, the Director General of NARC, Major General JGK Myam (retired), OFR, congratulated the participants on their nomination for the course, describing it as a significant milestone in their professional development.
He explained that the programme was carefully designed to build the capacity of officers to understand and apply the principles of leadership, strategy, national security, and national development.
Myam urged the officers to demonstrate commitment throughout the programme, noting that substantial effort and resources had been channelled into ensuring its successful execution.
He expressed confidence that the participants would emerge as more refined leaders, better equipped to take on higher responsibilities within the Army.
The Special Guest of Honour, Lieutenant General Shaibu, who was represented by Major General TE Gagariga, Director General of the Nigerian Army Heritage and Future Centre, commended the vision behind the establishment of the course.
He said the initiative had continued to yield positive results, especially in the improved performance of officers deployed across various operations.
According to him, the curriculum exposes participants to crucial areas including military leadership, strategy, national security, public administration and policymaking—key elements that support Nigeria’s national development goals. He expressed optimism that the officers would contribute meaningfully to strengthening the operational effectiveness and leadership capacity of the Nigerian Army.
Declaring the course open, the COAS lauded the NARC leadership for its dedication to sustaining the quality and relevance of the programme. He further appreciated President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, for his continuous support to the Nigerian Army, reaffirming the Army’s commitment to fulfilling its constitutional duties in the defence of the nation.
The ceremony featured the formal inauguration of the course and a group photograph involving the participants, senior officers, and invited guests.
