Chairman of the Coastal Fortress Table Tennis Academy and head of the Bayelsa State Table Tennis Association, Mr. Ama-Ebi Stow, has advanced to the Round of 16 at the ongoing South-South Veterans Table Tennis Championship holding at the Fortress in Yenagoa.

Stow secured his qualification with an impressive straight-sets victory, defeating his Round of 32 opponent 11-6, 11-9 in a match that kept spectators engaged from start to finish. The opening set saw Stow dominate with controlled spins and a steady rhythm, allowing little room for his opponent to respond.

However, the second game presented more difficulty, as Stow fell behind 3-7 after a series of quick returns from his opponent. Demonstrating resilience and strategic composure, he mounted a remarkable comeback, gradually overturning the deficit and eventually sealing the set 11-9. His ability to adjust tactics mid-game—switching between defensive blocks and calculated forehand drives—proved decisive in clinching the win.

The championship, featuring veteran players from across the South-South region, has continued to draw attention for its high level of competition and strong display of experience from former and active players. Stow’s progression adds to what has already been an eventful campaign for Bayelsa athletes, reinforcing the state’s growing reputation as a rising hub for table tennis development.

Speaking shortly after the match, officials and supporters at the Fortress commended Stow’s performance, noting that his advancement is not only a personal milestone but also a boost for the Bayelsa table tennis community.

Stow is expected to continue his campaign later in the competition as the Round of 16 matches commence.
