Bayelsa Queens defeat Edo Queens

Bayelsa Queens FC, 2024/2025 champions of the Nigeria Women’s Football League, secured a hard-fought 3-2 victory over Edo Queens FC the 2022/2023 winners of the league at the Samson Siasia Stadium. The match represented a competitive encounter between the two South-South rivals.

‎Edo Queens opened the scoring in the 23rd minute, with Adegbemile Rebecca beating Linda jiwuakwu in goal for the Prosperity Girls with a header from a corner kick.

 

Kindness Chinaza equalized for the Prosperity Girls in 44 minute to end the first half one goal apiece.

 

A minute after resumption in the second half, Bayelsa Queens wasted no time as they went ahead through Janet Akekoromowei with a precise finish.

 

‎Edo Queens mounted a determined response, scored the needed goal by Nwachukwu Adanna in 90+1 minute to make it 2-2, but not without some anxious moment before the goal was given.

 

Bayelsa Queens Captain, Blessing Ilivieda fires the home side back in front from the penalty spot in the 97th minutes after a player from Edo Queens handled the ball in the 18 yard box.

 

“It was a tough game as we expected, but I give kudos to my girls for keeping their cool and playing according to plan” Coach Whyte Ogbonda said.‎

 

“We have laudable plans for this season and we will try and execute them as each game comes. For today’s game, it was not an easy one but we’re happy we won”, Coach Whyte Ogbonda added.
