PDP BoT Condemns Invasion of National Secretariat, Reaffirms Legitimacy of New Leadership
…Seeks Probe of Attack, Backs Ibadan National Convention

The Board of Trustees (BoT) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has strongly condemned the violent invasion of the party’s National Secretariat in Abuja by individuals it described as “expelled elements” seeking to forcefully seize control of the complex.

In a statement signed by its Chairman, Senator Adolphus Wabara, the BoT said the incident occurred on Tuesday, November 18, 2025, when the expelled members, allegedly supported by compromised security personnel and armed thugs, launched an attack aimed at disrupting activities at the secretariat.

According to the BoT, the invaders attempted to block the newly elected National Working Committee (NWC), led by National Chairman Kabiru Tanimu Turaki, SAN, from accessing the complex. The statement said the National Chairman was in the company of the Chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum and Governor of Bauchi State, Senator Bala Mohammed, and Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, when the confrontation erupted.

The trustees expressed outrage that tear gas was fired at the governors and party officials, while thugs “unleashed violence” within the vicinity of the secretariat in a bid to create chaos and stall the work of the new leadership.

The BoT further lamented the presence of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike—also identified as an expelled member—who reportedly arrived at the scene with heavy security “in apparent solidarity” with the invaders.

Despite the turbulence, the BoT praised the courage of PDP governors, NWC officials, BoT members, party leaders, and supporters who resisted the attackers and stood firm in defence of the party’s structures.

Reaffirming its full support for the newly constituted NWC, the BoT emphasized that the elective National Convention held in Ibadan, Oyo State, on November 15 and 16, 2025, was convened in line with the party’s constitution, the Electoral Act, and all relevant guidelines. The Convention, it said, represents “the collective will of delegates and stakeholders of the PDP across the country.”

The BoT also denounced statements and actions from individuals it said were duly expelled from the party, describing their attempts to undermine the legitimacy of the Ibadan Convention as “mischievous” and a direct attack on internal party democracy.

Calling for accountability, the BoT urged the Inspector-General of Police to investigate the attacks and ensure that all perpetrators are brought to justice, stressing that democracy thrives only when institutions remain impartial and insulated from political manipulation.

The trustees encouraged the newly elected NWC to remain focused on rebuilding and repositioning the PDP ahead of the 2027 general elections, assuring members of its unwavering commitment to safeguarding the unity and democratic ethos of the party.
