Minister Reaffirms Commitment to Women and Children’s Empowerment in Benin

The Honourable Minister of Women Affairs, Hajiya Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim, has reaffirmed Nigeria’s collective commitment to strengthening systems that protect and empower women, children, and families across the country.

In a post shared on her official Facebook page, the Minister reflected on the just-concluded 25th National Council on Women and Children Affairs, held in Benin City, Edo State, describing it as a gathering filled with “songs, smiles, and the beautiful spirit of sisterhood.”

Sulaiman-Ibrahim emphasized that true national development is impossible without a strong foundation of care, accountability, and social support, noting that the Ministry, under the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, is intentionally building that foundation — one that ensures dignity, equity, and opportunity for all Nigerians.

She extended heartfelt appreciation to the Governor of Edo State, His Excellency Monday Okpebholo, for hosting the Council and for his steadfast commitment to advancing the cause of women and families. The Minister praised the collaborative spirit of the event, which brought together key stakeholders from government agencies, civil society organizations, and development partners to deliberate on policies that promote gender equality, child protection, and social inclusion.

According to her, the 25th Council served as a reminder of the nation’s shared responsibility in ensuring that no woman, no child, and no family is left behind in the task of building a stronger, more inclusive Nigeria.

The Council on Women and Children Affairs is the highest policymaking body on issues concerning women, children, and social welfare in Nigeria. It provides a platform for federal and state actors to review progress, align strategies, and chart new directions for gender and family-related programs.

Sulaiman-Ibrahim reiterated that the Ministry remains focused on promoting women’s empowerment, tackling gender-based violence, and supporting families to achieve their full potential under the Renewed Hope vision of the present administration.
