Boy, 5, Mauled by Dog in Park in Front of Horrified Mum

A five-year-old boy was viciously attacked by a dog in a public park, leaving his mother convinced that her son was about to be killed.

The shocking incident occurred on Wednesday afternoon at a park in the UK, where families were out enjoying the day. Witnesses said the dog — believed to be a large breed — broke free from its owner’s grasp before charging at the child, knocking him to the ground and biting him repeatedly on the arm and face.

Joanne, the boy’s distraught mother, recalled the terrifying moment: “It all happened so fast – I thought for sure this dog was about to kill my child. It was the most terrifying thing we’ve ever experienced. Now the adrenaline is wearing off, I sometimes think I could be planning his funeral right now.”

According to witnesses, several people rushed to help as the mother screamed for assistance. “It was chaos,” one bystander said. “People were shouting, trying to pull the dog away. It wouldn’t let go at first.”

Emergency services were called immediately, and the boy was rushed to hospital with serious but not life-threatening injuries. He is currently receiving treatment for deep wounds and trauma but is expected to recover physically.

Police confirmed that a man has been arrested on suspicion of owning a dog dangerously out of control. The dog has been seized and remains in police custody pending further investigation.

A police spokesperson said: “This was a frightening incident for the child, his family, and everyone who witnessed it. We’re conducting a full investigation to determine the circumstances and ensure appropriate action is taken.”

Residents have expressed shock over the attack, urging authorities to strengthen laws on dog ownership and control. One parent said, “We bring our kids here to play. You don’t expect something like this to happen in broad daylight.”

Joanne added that her son has been left deeply shaken by the ordeal. “He keeps waking up crying, asking if the dog is coming back,” she said. “No parent should ever have to see their child go through something like that.”

Police have appealed for any witnesses or anyone with footage of the attack to come forward.
