Senator and businessman, Prince Ned Nwoko, has publicly refuted claims circulating on social media that he married Nollywood actress Regina Daniels when she was 17 years old. In a strongly worded statement released on Thursday, the Delta-born politician described the allegations as “false, misleading, and malicious,” urging the public to disregard them.
According to Nwoko, the controversy, which recently resurfaced online, stemmed from purported claims attributed to Regina Daniels suggesting she was underage at the time of their marriage. He clarified that when they first met, Regina informed him that she was 21 years old, and provided her INEC voter’s card to verify her age.
“During my first meeting with Regina, I asked her age, and she told me she was 21. She presented her voter’s card showing she was born on October 10, 1998. I have kept that document since then,” Nwoko stated.
The senator further pointed out that their marriage took place six years ago, meaning Regina Daniels is now 27 years old, not the 17 years alleged by online commentators. He also referenced a BBC interview granted by Regina’s mother shortly after the marriage, which corroborated the actress’s age at the time.
Nwoko accused unnamed individuals of spreading misinformation for personal or political reasons and urged Nigerians to “verify facts before jumping to conclusions.” He also hinted at personal challenges Regina has reportedly faced, alleging that she had “started and abandoned rehabilitation from illegal drug addiction,” a claim that has yet to be independently verified.
The couple, who got married in 2019, have two sons together. Their union has often drawn public attention and controversy, largely due to their age difference and Nwoko’s polygamous background.
Nwoko concluded his statement by urging the public to treat the circulating claims with “caution and discernment,” emphasizing that “the facts are verifiable and indisputable.”
The actress, Regina Daniels, is yet to issue any official response to her husband’s statement as of press time.
