The Bayelsa State Executive Council, on Wednesday, approved a series of key infrastructure projects aimed at boosting connectivity, sports development, and power supply across the state.
Governor Douye Diri, who presided over the 176th State Executive Council meeting in Yenagoa, said the approvals represent another step in his administration’s commitment to sustainable development and grassroots transformation.
According to the governor, the council approved the award of contracts for the construction of several major roads, including the 18.7-kilometre Agbere-Abuetor-Osifo-Osekwenike-Asamabiri-Ekperiwari-Elemebiri Road and the 28-kilometre Okumbiri-Eriama-Kunu-Adagbabiri Road. Others include the Ogbosuware-Egbema-Angalabiri Road and a 5,000-seater mini stadium at Sampou in Kolokuma/Opokuma Local Government Area.
Governor Diri expressed appreciation to the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) for partnering with the state government on the Agbere-Abuetor-Osifo-Osekwenike-Asamabiri-Ekperiwari-Elemebiri Road Project. He disclosed that under the terms of the collaboration, Bayelsa State will contribute 60 percent of the project cost, while the NDDC will provide the remaining 40 percent.
“This is a commendable collaboration from the interventionist agency,” Diri stated, noting that such partnerships reflect renewed synergy between federal institutions and state governments for the overall development of the Niger Delta.
In addition to the road projects, the governor revealed that he paid an inspection visit to the site of the state’s Gas Turbine Project. He expressed satisfaction with the progress of installation work, adding that the project would provide a steady power supply before the end of the year.
Governor Diri reaffirmed that the infrastructural drive of his administration remains focused on improving living standards, promoting economic activities, and ensuring even development across Bayelsa’s eight local government areas.
He commended members of the State Executive Council and implementing agencies for their dedication to delivering people-oriented projects and urged contractors to maintain quality standards and timely completion of all approved works.
The governor emphasized that with sustained collaboration and prudent management, Bayelsa will continue to experience accelerated growth in infrastructure, sports, and energy sectors.
