Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, on Wednesday presented a ₦705.79 billion 2026 Appropriation Bill to the State House of Assembly, christened the “Budget of Economic Transformation.” He described the fiscal plan as a visionary roadmap for sustainable growth, aimed at consolidating ongoing infrastructural and human capital development across the state.
According to the governor, the 2026 budget is structured to strengthen the state’s economy, promote equity, and ensure inclusive development for all citizens. Out of the total sum, ₦317.41 billion, representing 45 percent, is allocated for recurrent expenditure, while ₦388.38 billion, or 55 percent, is earmarked for capital projects.
Adeleke reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to completing all ongoing projects, maintaining regular payment of salaries and pensions, and scaling up youth empowerment initiatives such as the Imole Youth Corps Scheme, which he described as a key driver of employment and economic inclusion in Osun State.
Highlighting key achievements, the governor said over 300 kilometres of roads had been constructed across the three senatorial districts, with significant progress recorded in healthcare, education, and social welfare.
Presenting the proposal, he commended the Assembly for its cooperation and pledged continued partnership to advance Osun’s transformation agenda.
“This budget is not just a financial document; it is a bold declaration of our collective resolve to build a prosperous and resilient Osun State,” Adeleke stated.
Earlier in his welcome address, the Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Adewale Egbedun, praised Governor Adeleke for his exemplary leadership, integrity, and prudent management of state resources amid fiscal challenges.
Speaking during the presentation of the 2026 Appropriation Bill in Osogbo, Egbedun described the budget process as “more than a constitutional ritual,” but a vital democratic exercise that strengthens transparency and accountability.
He commended the governor for the effective implementation of previous budgets, which he said yielded measurable results in infrastructure, education, healthcare, social inclusion, and workers’ welfare.
The Speaker also applauded Adeleke’s restraint and diplomacy in resolving local government administration disputes, noting that his approach “demonstrates statesmanship of the highest order.”
Despite the reported withholding of local government allocations since March 2025, Egbedun said the governor’s administration has continued to meet obligations and sustain development projects — “a testament to visionary and responsible leadership.”
He reaffirmed the Assembly’s commitment to thorough scrutiny of the 2026 budget to ensure it reflects citizens’ aspirations, while pledging continued cooperation with the executive arm for the progress of the state.
Egbedun also appreciated the Deputy Governor, Prince Kola Adewusi, and other members of the executive team for their roles in preparing the budget.
