The sports world is mourning the sudden death of Dallas Cowboys defensive end, Marshawn Kneeland, who has reportedly died at the age of 24.
According to reports, Kneeland was found dead late Wednesday night in what authorities believe to be an apparent suicide. Police sources said he was discovered in his residence, though full details surrounding the circumstances of his death are still being investigated.
Kneeland, a promising young player, was drafted by the Cowboys in the 2024 NFL Draft out of Western Michigan University, where he made a name for himself as a relentless pass rusher and team leader. In his short time with the Cowboys, he had already begun to impress both coaches and fans with his strong work ethic, humility, and dedication on and off the field.
In a statement on Thursday morning, the Dallas Cowboys organization expressed heartbreak over the loss:
“We are deeply saddened by the passing of Marshawn Kneeland. He was a remarkable young man whose energy, kindness, and passion for the game inspired everyone around him. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family, teammates, and friends during this incredibly difficult time.”
Teammates also took to social media to pay tribute, describing Kneeland as “a brother,” “a light in the locker room,” and “someone who always lifted others up.”
The NFL is expected to hold a moment of silence before upcoming games in his honor.
Kneeland’s death comes amid growing concerns over mental health challenges faced by professional athletes. Counseling and support services have reportedly been made available to Cowboys players and staff.
Funeral arrangements and memorial details are expected to be announced by the family in the coming days.
