Rear Adm. Suleiman Ibrahim Assumes Duty as New FOC CNC

Rear Admiral Suleiman Ibrahim has officially assumed duty as the new Flag Officer Commanding (FOC) of the Central Naval Command (CNC), Yenagoa, with a pledge to consolidate on his predecessor’s achievements in combating maritime crimes and strengthening national security.

Ibrahim took over from Rear Admiral Ahmed Gaya, who has been redeployed to another post within the Nigerian Navy. Speaking shortly after the handover ceremony, the new FOC expressed gratitude to God and the Chief of Naval Staff for finding him worthy to lead the command, promising to justify the confidence reposed in him.

“I am indeed privileged to take over as the Flag Officer Commanding, Central Naval Command,” Ibrahim said. “I assure the Chief of Naval Staff and Nigerians that I shall not abuse this privilege. I understand the importance of CNC in sustaining maritime security and national prosperity, and I will uphold the high standards set by my predecessor.”

He pledged to work closely with other security services and stakeholders to strengthen synergy in tackling maritime threats, crude oil theft, illegal bunkering, and piracy. He also emphasized that personnel welfare would remain a top priority under his leadership.

In his valedictory remarks, the outgoing FOC, Rear Adm. Ahmed Gaya, expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve, describing his tenure as both challenging and fulfilling.

“When I assumed command in October 2024, I committed to enhancing maritime security and safeguarding national economic assets. Today, I am proud that our efforts have yielded tangible results,” Gaya stated.

He highlighted the command’s success in reducing crude oil theft, piracy, and illegal activities through improved intelligence sharing and collaboration with other agencies. Gaya also noted significant improvements in fleet renewal, personnel welfare, and training, which have boosted operational efficiency.

He thanked the Chief of Naval Staff, his officers, and his family for their unwavering support and urged them to extend the same cooperation to his successor.

“I am confident that Rear Adm. Ibrahim will build on our achievements and take the Command to greater heights,” Gaya said.
