CG Adeniyi Elected President of Nigeria Wrestling Federation, Pledges Robust Development of Wrestling

The Comptroller General of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Dr. Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, has been elected as the new President of the Nigeria Wrestling Federation (NWF) for a four-year term. The election took place on Saturday at the Gymnasium Hall, Package B, Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Abuja.

Adeniyi emerged unopposed, securing all 14 votes from the Executive Board Members in an election supervised by the National Sports Commission (NSC). North Central representative, Chris Amkpila, was re-elected as Vice President, while other regional and sectoral representatives also retained or assumed new positions on the Federation’s board.

In his acceptance speech, CG Adeniyi expressed deep gratitude for the confidence reposed in him to lead one of Nigeria’s most dynamic sports federations. He commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his administration’s efforts in repositioning sports through the appointment of capable hands to manage the National Sports Commission.

“I want to sincerely thank the National Sports Commission for conducting a hitch-free and transparent election,” Adeniyi said. “The process was smooth and peaceful, which reflects the true spirit of sports — fostering unity, peace, and cooperation across diverse backgrounds.”

He described the peaceful conduct of the election as a testament to President Tinubu’s vision for effective leadership and institutional reforms within Nigeria’s sports ecosystem.

Adeniyi further pledged to strengthen the development of wrestling across the country through innovative sponsorship initiatives, grassroots engagement, and inclusive governance.

“Together with my team of technical and competent board members, we will dedicate our energy and expertise to actualizing a stronger and more vibrant Federation,” he assured. “Our goal is to build on the successes of past administrations and take Nigerian wrestling to greater global prominence.”

The Customs boss also acknowledged the contribution of wrestling stakeholders and athletes who have continued to make the nation proud at continental and global levels. He promised that under his leadership, the Federation would prioritize athlete welfare, capacity building for coaches, and infrastructure development.
