Senator Ned Nwoko has publicly addressed a viral video making rounds on social media that falsely links him to a young woman said to be part of a delegation that visited him recently. The video, which has attracted widespread attention and online speculation, has been described by the lawmaker as a deliberate attempt to mislead the public and tarnish his reputation.

In a statement released on Saturday, Senator Nwoko condemned what he described as “mischievous and malicious” efforts by certain individuals to create false narratives around an innocent courtesy visit. The Delta North senator explained that the young woman in question was part of a delegation from the Peace Ambassadors Initiative, led by Ambassador Dr. Adejo Sule, who had visited him in Abuja as part of their peace advocacy engagements.

“A video recently brought to my attention shows a young woman who visited with her team under the Peace Ambassadors initiative, led by Ambassador Dr. Adejo Sule, and it is now being circulated online with false claims attempting to affiliate me with her,” the statement read in part.

According to Nwoko, as a public figure, it is customary for him to receive guests, dignitaries, and advocacy groups who often request to take photographs after meetings. He noted that such gestures are normal and have never implied any personal or private connection with his visitors.

“During the visit, photographs were taken with members of the delegation, as is customary whenever I receive guests. This is not unusual; even in public places or outdoor events, people often request to take pictures with me, and I oblige,” he explained.

The senator expressed disappointment over the growing trend of social media sensationalism, where individuals or bloggers twist harmless public interactions into false and damaging stories. He lamented that the rise of “click-driven” content has turned social media into a hub of misinformation.

“It is unfortunate what social media has become—a space where moments are easily twisted for clout and misinformation,” Nwoko lamented.

He made it clear that there is no personal or private connection between him and the lady in the video, stressing that the entire story circulating online is a fabrication intended to cause harm to his image and distract from his legislative work.

“Let me state clearly and unequivocally that the news being propagated around her visit is entirely false. I do not have any form of personal or private connection with her,” he stated firmly.

Senator Nwoko also issued a strong warning to individuals, online platforms, and media outlets spreading the false narrative, reminding them of the consequences of cyber defamation under Nigerian law. He cited the Cybercrime (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) Act of 2015, which criminalizes the spread of false information and defamation on digital platforms.

> “I strongly caution individuals, groups, or media outlets spreading this fabricated story to desist immediately. Any further propagation of this false narrative will attract appropriate legal action,” he warned.

This is not the first time Nwoko has been the subject of social media controversies. As a high-profile businessman, philanthropist, and senator, he has often found himself at the center of public attention, sometimes for reasons beyond his control. Observers note that this latest episode reflects the broader challenges faced by public figures in the digital age, where misinformation can spread rapidly and cause reputational damage before the truth emerges.

Political analysts say Nwoko’s quick and transparent response underscores his awareness of the power of perception in politics. By issuing a public statement and invoking legal deterrents, he aims to both clarify the facts and discourage further rumor-mongering.

Meanwhile, supporters of the senator have taken to social media to express solidarity, urging the public to disregard the misleading posts and focus on his track record of service and philanthropy.

As online misinformation continues to blur the line between fact and fiction, Nwoko’s case serves as another reminder of the need for responsible digital engagement and verification before sharing content.

In his closing remarks, the senator reaffirmed his commitment to peacebuilding, youth empowerment, and legislative service, assuring that distractions would not deter him from his duties.

“I remain focused on serving my people and promoting peace and development. No amount of falsehood will derail that mission,” he concluded.
